Stayed at  Pelangi Beach & Spa Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
We found the food in both the hotel and restaurants extremely palatable but were dissapointed by the small number of good quality restaurants in the resort which meant that we had to visit some places more than once. Particularly would recommend restaurant Del Mar in Pelangi and also the Barn Thai. Travelling around by taxi was extremely cheap as were most things e.g . 1.5 hr 40 mile round trip to Kuha was 20 Ringis (£4).

Best place to stay if you want to relax in a very exclusive setting, in our opinion the best view and landscape together with excellent services on the island that also matches with children.

The best way to see Langkawi is to rent a car from the Airport as it is very convenient way and relatively less expensive as the cost of renting a car is only $12 per day , also Langkawi is very small Island with very limited places to visit but don't miss the Birds Paradise and The Cable Car.

Stayed at  Casa Del Mar - Langkawi, Malaysia.
The beach was not so clean, lots of rubbish on it including a syringe. Most of the rubbish seems to come from Thailand, judging from the writing.

The Pelangi Beach Resort was located on a wide and long sandy beach called Pantai Cenang on the Langkawi Island. The beach was beautiful but the sea was a disappointment because it was not as clear as we wished, perhaps due to the fact that when were there (August), it was the rainy reason. The only attraction in Langkawi that we enjoyed going to was the cable car ride to the mountain top. The view from the top was fantastic. Apart from that there was not much to do on the island and we were not of the island hoping type, or the snorkelling fanatics. The island was pretty quiet when we were there, maybe due to the SARS scare.

Local restaurants were a good standard, from the local fare (where fun was had deciding what would turn up, once we had ordered) to the more tourist-oriented outlets. We particularly enjoyed the Red Tomato and Champo-Champo, both close to the Pelangi.

We hired a car from the main street, which was cheap and reliable, enabling much sight-seeing to be accomplished at our pace. Hikes up to the Seven Wells waterfall were a good workout, and well worth the effort. The cable car jaunt was good value, as was the crocodile farm. Underwater World was a fabulous experience. There are also some wonderfully-deserted beaches away from the main commercially developed areas that deserve a visit and are presumably kept secret for the islanders to use.

Hire a semi-automatic bike at very cheap rates, RM25 per day, and just ride around stopping wherever you want is the best way to go. Some good beaches around the island to cool off at along the way. Probably need more than one day's hire to make the most of it. The cable car ride was terrifying when it stopped and started to swing near the top so take your heart pills as you need ahead for real heights - worthwhile though at RM15 per adult. In Pantai Centang and Tengah some of the more basic restaurants along the street give you great meals for around RM5. Most people (including the locals)eat quite late so don't think it's no good because there's no-one else eating there.

Stayed at  Kampung Tok Senik Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Recomend hiring a motorbike. Water sports at Cenang were great and cheap. Visit the 7 pools and go for a swim - wonderful fresh water.

B Ovesen 03 August 2003
Stayed at  Tanjung Rhu Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Tanjung-Rhu is quite secluded (luckily...)gracefully placed on a quiet private beach and much to our joy has avoided all the tacky coloured lights and disco ambience. We enjoyed the place so much that going places was not really of interest - all though we did visit Kudah, a melting pot of sounds, smells, and shopping. The 2 hour visit was enough.

Langkawi is small island. If you are looking for many attractions or places of interest, you will be disappointed. The city is small, only a few places to see. Having dinner at the beach is nice. Food are good and quite cheap. If you go to Langkawi then you must visit one of the resorts, like Tanjung Rhu. Especially for honeymooners or if you want to find a quite nice place for a retreat. It is highly recommended.
