Stayed at  Tanjung Sanctuary Langkawi - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Langkawi island is a great destination for a relaxing beach holiday. The local seafood is amazing and cheap. Yong Leong Restaurant in Kwah town has amazing food, along with the experience of eating with the locals. If you want a really romantic experience that will cost you a lot more, go to Bon Ton Restaurant at sunset...the food and cocktails are spectacular!

Langkawi is a small and beautiful Island. There is not an enourmous amount of things to do but with island hopping, Snorkelling and general sightseeing more than enough to fill the days. We visited in September and it was a very quiet time so there are many bargains to be had on hotels room prices etc etc. there are many restaurants to choose from and we did not have one bad meal in all the time we were there. Undoubtedly the best thing we did was take the cable car up to over look the island and its neighbouring islands and thailand.

This year, we spent our 3 week holidays divided between Penang and Langkawi. Malaysia offers fabulous Summer beach holidays with truly great value for money. However, for those in search of a very active, social or hectic holiday life, Malaysia may not suit the thrill-seeking vacartioneers. However, one thing is sure, Malaysian hotels and resorts are generally clean with friendly staff overall. Peace and order is great; a tourist doesn't fear being mugged or pickpocketed even in remote night markets as opposed to other places in Asia (we know many places in the Asian region having once lived and worked and have often holidayed since).

One thing the Malaysian tourism sector needs to upgrade is the quality of the staff services. It is one thing to have friendly people on hotels' and resorts' staffs but it is another thing to be really capable of delivering first-class and prompt services to travellers, an area where tourism industry staffs in Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Hong-Kong and even Singapore have a clear edge over Malaysia. But in spite of the absence of a real or first-class tourism service culture, holiday infrastructures and other tourism requirements in Malaysia are available to the most discriminating tourist and are outstanding and may be considered among the best of the best in the Asian region.

Langkawi itself is nothing special, they created a few spots for mass tourism which can be found anywhere. Avoid the visit to the Marine park, they created an artificial swimming pool on a 20 meter-beach, water is dirty and you can see the same fishes much better at the aquarium. Only visit worth taking is the cable car. The view is really amazing from there. The sea is far away from what is promoted, night life is nil and socialize with local people is not easy.

Recommend Flour Power - a little cafe on the road leading to Pantai Tengah. You can relax with the papers while eating cake, sandwiches and salads all freshly prepared for you.

Unfortunately Langkawi hasn't progressed much from when I visited 10 years ago. There are many abandoned developments, and some areas are short on cleanliness - eg. The Black Beach was a disappointment. We hired a van for 2 days as there were 11 of us, and you can easily see most of the attractions in that time. We especially liked the waterfalls. We spent a nice day at Coral Park mingling with the fishes. Recommend it.

Stayed at  Mutiara Burau Bay Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
I highly recommend the Sunset Cruise with snacks, and the Mango River Cruise. The former is pure fun, and the "fishnet sauna" a real ice-breaker. The latter is one of the best environmental tours I've taken, and I've taken several.

Stayed at  Sheraton Perdana Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
We took a tour to see the Crocodile firm, Craft complex and many other hot places. Our Favourite one is Mangrove River Cruise.

We chartered a boat to the Pulau Payar Marine Park and it was a sight to behold, just beautiful. Restaurant Kitta serves good food at a reasonable price. Museum Perdana was worth every sen, in fact, at RM3 per entrance, it is very cheap. The view at the top of the cable car station at Oriental Village was spectacular. But the queue jumping by the public was atrocious. The cable car management should consider a more reliable queueing system. An ugly sight was noted, stark discrimination was noticed on how the staff of the cable car handles the public. The staff needs to be reminded that to attract foreigners we need to go international, that is no discrimination, full stop.

Stayed at  City Bayview Langkawi - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Langkawi is a beautiful island, giving great views when arriving or departing by air. The sea is a beautiful blue with these richly forested little islands lying here and there. Having lunch at the Yacht Club is a must-do. Good pricing, great food, lovely view.
