We got around by car. Coming from Singapore, it was a smooth and easy road to hotel destination. We heard so much about Danga Bay from our friends. Ample parking spaces and spoilt for choice of food made us brought our parents to try the foods there especially the lunch buffet of 'Kampung Dishes' which were soo authentic and varieties with we pay for a very affordable price. Those who wish to drive in Johor the signs are very helpful and easy. You will never be hungry at Johor Bahru, almost every turn there will be restaurants and shopping malls are plenty. Traffic is rather busy. Of all, we love Danga Bay so for foodies like us, do look that out!Beautiful at night:)

Johor Bharu is not really a tourist's place, although we enjoyed the short time there. There are not very many things to see in JB itself. We spent a day in Singapore, which is easy to get to from the hotel. You can get a bus from the local (KotaRaya) bus station which drops you at a railway station in Singapore - make sure you have Singapore dollars BEFORE you do this! Incidentally, no map we saw of JB had a scale on it, and they did not make clear where the bus stations are. The local (KotaRaya) bus station is a few minutes walk from the Puteri Pan Pacific Hotel. The main (Larkin) bus station is several miles away - this is the one you will need for most journeys into the rest of Malaysia.

Compact hotel is strategically located at the heart of Johor city with City square, the largest shopping centre within a 5 min walking distance. In the evening a food street can be located at the backlane serving local delicacy such as barbecue seafood and local fare. A very good option for supper after shopping from City Square. Transportation is convenient to other parts of the city. Holiday Plaza ($6RM by cab) is about 10 minutes drive from the hotel. Good for clothing apparels, personal grooming and a little shopping for CDs and movies. For a good meal with more variety of local fare, you can proceed to Taman sentosa for local fare at a very affordable pricing. Take note to ask for pricing before committing on the food.

If you're a plus size lady like myself, you might want to try this shop are Pelangi Shopping Centre on 2nd level at Taman Pelangi. Just tell the cab driver Pelangi Shopping Centre the fare is around RM12 from the hotel. Anything more might be due to the traffic, you might want to bargain a bit more if they charge you anything more than RM12. The shop's name is fyi.

New Hongkong restaurant serves quality dim sum in clean, more upmarketlike restaurant settings, service was v attentive and price affordable- about 12RM i think pax for 4 ppl... Recommend this noodle house at corner of Jalan Serampang- this is N swee somth 4got the name... serves typical roast duck/charsiew wonton noodles & some dim sum. Food is good in non aircon humbler settings ... about 7RM pax. For anime lovers, Pelangi Leisure Mall has this shop wif a considerable collection including OSTs....

Guys who want to stay there can just go to the night food market just round the corner of the hotel. It will operate from 4pm to 3am. Food there are cheap and nice. As for shopping, City Square is just 10minutes walk away.

Check out Compact Hotel breakfast buffet every morning as its pretty affordable only at 8 ringgit for adults. Though the variety is small, but its quite worth the money. City Square has lots of shops and do check the reject shop which has plenty of clothes at affordable prices for the shopaholics. Sightseeing trip at the sultan abu bakar and istana garden are worth a visit too.

Johor Bahru is the southern tip of Malaysia. Hawker food such as Bak-Kut-Teh, Kuih-Toew-Kiah, Or-Chien, Chwee-Kueh, Chai-Tow-Kueh are my favourites, all available at the back street next to Compact Hotel.
